Harlander Autonomous Transport Pilot Concludes in Titanic Quarter

Friday 31 October 2025

The Harlander autonomous transport pilot has successfully concluded in Titanic Quarter, marking a significant milestone in exploring the future of sustainable and connected mobility in Belfast.

The £11 million pilot project, led by Belfast Harbour and funded by Innovate UK, tested a nine-seater autonomous electric shuttle operating on a loop between Titanic Halt station and Catalyst. The initiative aimed to assess the potential for autonomous technology to enhance “last-mile” connectivity in urban settings.

Over the course of the pilot, passenger feedback demonstrated strong public support, with a 92% satisfaction rate recorded among users, including commuters, students, and visitors. Participants praised the service for its accessibility, innovation, and contribution to Belfast’s growing smart city credentials.

Hosting this innovative pilot within Titanic Quarter reflects the area’s continued evolution as a hub for technology, research, and sustainable development. With a diverse mix of education, business, and leisure, Titanic Quarter provides a unique real-world environment to test emerging technologies and future-ready infrastructure.

The insights gained from the Harlander pilot will inform future autonomous transport projects across the UK, supporting efforts to build cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive transport networks.
