Chase the Sun cycling event
Chase the Sun is a unique road bike cycling event taking place simultaneously across 4 routes in England, Scotland and Italy every year and was organised for the first time across Northern Ireland & Ireland in 2022. The 2023 edition of Chase the Sun will take place on Saturday 24th June.
Riders start at sunrise at the historic Titanic docks in Belfast, Titanic Quarter and proceed up the dramatic coastal road through the Antrim Glens before heading inland to traverse forests, mountains, and loughs. Participants will explore the mythical landscapes and landmarks of the ’Emerald Isle’. The route crosses the border of Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland finishing after 209 miles at sunset on the Atlantic beaches of Enniscrone.
Chase The Sun is a simple idea, with a unique philosophy. The challenge is to ride across the country in one day, always on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice. Coast to coast, East to West, sunrise to sunset. Originally conceived by a keen yet average cyclist Olly Moore in 2008, the concept is unique: a longest day adventure on two wheels, an annual physical, navigational and motivational challenge. This event is a ride, not a race, it is a collective endeavour shared by a community of cyclists inspired in pursuit of a common goal.
With over 3,600m of elevation, riders can take on the Irish event solo or as part of a relay team.
